As we all know, water is a must have no matter what you are doing, so what better way to have a clean, sparkling, endless supply of water than to tap into our natural spring water resources at Seminolean Farm! We dug up the space where the water comes out of the ground. We constructed a wall with the same stones that were already there. We put 2 pipes going through our wall. Next we used hydraulic cement to seal the wall. We dug out all the sludge in the bottom of the enclosed space, used the water pump to clean out the muddy water, and drilled many holes into the pipes in front of the wall. A cleanout pipe was installed and gravel was dumped to fill the space up level with the stone wall. We will cover this area so that no animals, debris, or any other contaminants will get in our water! One of the pipes is a drain/overflow pipe while the other pipe connects into a water tank a little further down that has a pump inside, which pumps fresh water up to the water tubs for our animals. Can you spot the hidden rabbit in one of the pictures? Yes, even our furry friends like to play!
Since we have decided to raise our animals in environments that most mimic God’s natural design for them, we practice rotational grazing. We have designed and set up a system of 20 paddocks, each about “_______________” in size. The cattle are moved to a new paddock on a daily basis, which provides them with fresh grass, and helps our soil and land become healthier. We chose to put up permanent fencing so we don’t have to deal with moving temporary fences every day. We are finishing up our gate system to make it easier to open and close the paddocks when moving our hairy coos.
During rainy seasons this year, we started running into the problem of water accumulating in front of the barn area. Our gravel has been delivered and we are ready to dig up alot of mud, install drain pipes across the front of the barn and continuing out to where the water can drain, fill in with the gravel, add some dirt to cover, and top off with hay. That way water will drain nicely, and no one will have to tread through the mud!
You will experience an unforgettable visit at the Whimsical Life Farm where our friendly hairy coos will steal a piece of your heart as you will have the opportunity to be up close and personal with the fold and everything else nature has to offer here in our slice of paradise!
You will be able to tour our farm and learn about sustainable farming practices. Our tours are educational and fun for all ages. You'll get to see a typical day at the whimsical life farm and meet some of our farm animals.
We will be building a chicken coop inside the pasture to further our regenerative farming practices. By allowing the chickens to roam free and live in their natural environment, they will help to spread cattle manure, reduce pest/fly nuisances and weeds, since chickens eat the bugs and weed seeds. All of these factors add up to healthier chickens and soil.
